About the St. Margarets Bay Marine Search & Rescue Society
St. Margarets Bay Marine Search & Rescue (SMBMSAR) is part of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Maritimes (CCGA-M), a non-profit organization and a registered charity made up of volunteer resources throughout the Maritime Region. The CCGA has been in existence since 1978 and provides year-round, on water lifesaving support throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Magdalen Islands & Prince Edward Island covering 12,368 km of coastline. For over 15 years, we have provided on water lifesaving services to residents and boaters in St. Margarets Bay, Nova Scotia region, including Peggy's Cove.
Here are a few examples of actual rescues:

“Two persons rescued from grounded vessel, winds blowing 30-35 knots, reduced visibility, seas 7’- 9’ swells”

“Injured person located and rescued from Micou’s Island and transported to Emergency Health Services at Shining Waters Marina”

“Search for missing person near Shag Head. Body recovery conducted with assistance from helicopter air support”

“Transportation of HRM fire fighters to Franks George island to extinguish island fire”
